What is WIC?

Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a supplemental nutrition program that serves to safeguard the health of income-eligible women, infants, and children who are at nutritional risk.  Services include:  Nutrition education for families, referrals to various social service agencies, and issuance of food benefits that can be used at various grocery stores for healthy foods such as milk, cheese, eggs, fruits, vegetables, beans, peanut butter, infant foods and formula, juice and cereal.

  • Lost, stolen, or damaged card? Call the local WIC clinic at 620-421-4350 during regular business hours for help cancelling your card. If it’s outside of regular business hours, leave a detailed message and WIC staff will return your call the next business day.

Who is eligible?

  • Pregnant women (up to six weeks after pregnancy)
  • Breastfeeding women (up to infants first birthday)
  • Non-breastfeeding postpartum women (up to six months after pregnancy)
  • Infants and children under 5 years old

WIC clients must meet WIC income guidelines and have a medical or nutritional need.

How to qualify?

  • Live in the State of Kansas
  • Have a household income within program limits
  • If you receive Medicaid, SNAP or TANF, you are automatically eligible for WIC benefits
 

What to bring to appointment?

  • ID at every visit for caregiver or self (if pregnant, postpartum, or breastfeeding women receiving benefits)
  • ID of infant/child (at certification appointments)
  • Proof of household (if receiving Medicaid, SNAP or TANF must bring proof of benefits receiving)
  • Your infant/child

How do I use and manage by benefits?

eWIC (Electronic Food Benefit Card)

  • Program participants receive their benefits via an electronic benefit card which can be used to purchase foods for all family members receiving WIC benefits.
  • Allows participants to select which WIC foods they want to purchase during each store visit.
  • Gives participants the ability to purchase WIC foods and non-WIC items in one transaction.
